Oh, the joys of babyhood. Poor little Owen got pink eye. We thought it was irritation from his face plant in the sand this past weekend, but alas, it was the frightful pink eye. We had to keep him out of daycare for a day, but that was ok by me! I got to spend some more time with him, which is always a nice luxury. Usually we will get a couple of hours with him if we are lucky, then he is ready to crash for the night. He used to be quite cranky after daycare because he was so tired, but I finally think he has adjusted and he is usually in a good mood.

Because of daycare, Owen has a perpetual cold. He has been having a phlegmy cough as of late and this morning the poor guy choked on some of his phlegm and threw up EVERYTHING he had just eaten. It just poured out, I didn't think it was going to stop. Poor guy, I felt so horrible, but it was like nothing happened for him. He was just happy and chatty, you never would have known. Then the other day, I was feeding him squash and he was loving it. He got so excited and opened his mouth so wide, I didn't think it was possible. Well, I think he got a little too excited because he managed to gag on some of the squash and a geyser of squash and breastmilk came gushing out of his mouth. Thankfully his high chair tray caught most of it. Again, it was like nothing out of the ordinary happened to him. He was as happy as ever.......babies are so great.

Beach Weekend
I think Owen is going to be a beach bum. He loves that salt air! He takes the best naps on the beach, he NEVER falls asleep that easily for naps at home.
We got to the beach on Friday night and he was so happy and energetic. On Saturday, after spending the morning with my parents, Corey, Mark, Owen and I went down to the beach. An old high school friend of mine, Andy, joined us. He had not met Owen and he was of course instantly charmed by Owen's good looks and sweet smile.
All of us spent most of the afternoon at the beach. It is a perfect set up because the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is right there, so it provides perfect shade for Owen. He played for about 15 minutes and I could tell he was getting tired. I rocked him for a few minutes, placed him on the sheet and he was out like a light for over an hour and a half. He eventually woke up and I took him down to the water and floated with him. The water was really warm, so he loved it. It was really the first time he had been IN the water. He had his feet in, but he had never floated in the water, so that was really special. When we came back up from the water, I perched him in the beach chair and Corey took off his diaper and he laid out, stark naked. You could clearly tell he was happy as a clam. That baby just loves being naked. The next day was essentially the same story. After about 30 minutes and a quick dash back to the condo to get his pacifier, he was down for the count.
He seems to just love being near the ocean. Every time were are there he is as giddy and excitable as he ever has been. On Saturday evening, when the guys were getting dinner ready, I kept Owen entertained. I would crawl behind the couch and pop my head up and he would just laugh SO loud. I don't think I have ever seen a bigger grin on his face. I would then hide behind the couch again and move to the other side and pop my head up again and he would just lose it. It was the most adorable thing I have ever seen.
We were sad to head back home, but we had a great weekend to show for it. Now I'm looking forward to getting him to that northern air.....where his roots are! Just 4.5 more months until we get him up to Albany....we can't wait for everyone to see him!

Chick Magnet

That is what Owen is....a chick magnet, at least according to his teachers at day care, but I tend to agree with them. Every day that I bring him in they "oooo" and "ahhh" over him. Today, I dropped him off and one of the ladies who works at the front desk came running over to hold him. She is the one that termed him "the chick magnet." Another teacher was telling me that every time they take a buggy ride outside they get stopped every few feet so that all the teachers from the other rooms can say hi to Owen. There are only 2 other boys out of 14 total babies in the two baby rooms and Owen seems to be the favorite boy for sure. It is so nice seeing how much he is adored by everyone there. It makes us feel so much better leaving him at day care every day, something that we really struggled with for a long time. Now, if we could just get him to stop picking up those day care colds and I would feel much better about dropping him off every day.
Tonight he was a little cranky when my friend Tori came over, so I put him in the swing to fall asleep while we cooked dinner. After dinner I picked him up to get him ready for bed and he was too busy charming Tori, we just couldn't bring ourselves to put him to bed. That smile....it just melts your heart. He played coy for a little while, looking up at Tori and smiling, then burying his face in his bunny. What a flirt, we are going to have a heartbreaker on our hands I'm afraid. Hopefully he will be a perfect gentleman though. Our little Owen......such a sweet baby.
